Know Your Grades of Champion Lubes Motorcycle Engine Oils

Motorcycle engine lubrication oils can be confusing with numbers and letters such as SAE 5W50, 10W50 and 10W40. The SAE or Society of Automotive Engineers developed the grading system which determines the thickness (viscosity) of the motor oil depending on the environmental temperature. The two numbers indicates that the engine lubrication oil is multigraded meaning it’s rated for both cold and warm climates.The number before W refers to the lowest operatingoutside environment temperature the motorcycle engine lubricant while the number after the W refers to the outside environment maximum temperature your engine lubricant can operate safely without performance penalties and engine damage.

WARM CLIMATE

For warmer climates such as South East Asian countries which experience high temperatures all year long we recommend grades between 30°C and 60°C.

COLD CLIMATE

For countries which have multi seasons which experience high temperature summers and low temperature winters, it’s crucial to have engine oil grade which has a wide operating range from 0°C all the way to 50°C.
